Instructor Development Course

*$1399 + Required Materials

As a certified Divemaster you're ready to begin the training that provides both a career in diving and the respect only afforded those divers who carry the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor credential. In the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC), you receive the intensive education that gives you the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary for teaching other divers. You practice these in classroom, pool, and open water settings. After completion, you'll be personally evaluated by professionals directly from PADI.

Instructor Development Course (IDC) Prerequisites

1. PADI Divemaster or leadership level with another diver training organization including:

*       18 years old
*       60 logged dives; documented experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.
*       If not a PADI Divemaster, successfully complete the PADI Divemaster course dive rescue assessment.

2. Certified diver for six months.

3. Medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months.

4. Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care course completion (or qualifying training) within the last 24 months.

*Instructor Candidate Required Materials

Instructor candidates must have, in their possession, a personal, current set of the following materials for study and use during the course and for
reference afterward. You can save an additional $100 on your course fee with the purchase of your IDC Instructor kit which includes the ** items and a marketing kit all in a PADI backpack for $622.  The PADI application fee is $126.  See attached Required Materials sheet.

Instructor Candidate Schedule and online independent study

Course schedules are available for days, nights or weekends and will be determined by the candidates needs.  Once you have enrolled, you will begin your course training at home with the online independent study (this is now included in your course fee).  See attached Sample Schedule.

Upon completion of your IDC you will need to attend the PADI IE to become an instructor.  Below is some information you may find helpful.  Dates and locations of the IE's can be found on PADI's website and will be discussed more in class.

Instructor Examination

Earning a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification requires successfully completing a PADI Instructor Examination (IE) conducted by a
PADI Instructor Examiner.  The fee is paid directly to PADI and is $499.

IE Prerequisites

1. 100 logged dives

2. Successfully complete the Instructor Development Course or the Open Water Scuba Instructor program within the past 12 months.
